COLLECTIVELY, WE CAN WIN THE SAFE RETURN TO SCHOOLS THAT OUR STUDENTS AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS DESERVE.

Elected officials and so-called leaders are increasing the pressure to return to schools, even when it puts students, educators, and school communities in harm’s way. They have failed to create the necessary conditions for a safe return by prioritizing indoor malls, outdoor dining, gyms and card rooms while infection rates soared and school buildings remained closed. They are discounting LAUSD families, who are overwhelmingly low-income families of color, the group hit hardest by the virus. This pressure is political, it is not science.

In spite of this political pressure, parents and educators remain committed to create a safe environment in our schools and save lives.

WE DEMAND A SAFE RETURN

These are the three elements of a safe return that must be met before returning:

  1.   LA County must be out of the purple tier.
  2.   Staff required to return to in-person work are either fully vaccinated or provided access to full vaccination.
  3.   Safety conditions are in place in our schools, such as PPE, social distancing, ventilation and a cleaning regimen.

We demand that Gov. Newsom and local officials provide the necessary health and safety conditions to return to our classrooms and schools safely.
